The Music Of
Nicholas Breeze Wood - Liminal
Liminal draws on the musical and poetic styles of the medieval trobadors of South West France and Eastern Spain - the original singer-songwriters - who flourished between the C11th - C13th. It is performed on copies of instruments the trobadors would have known and used, and brings their earthy, and yet mystical soundworld to a modern audience. The album features six original songs, three original instrumental pieces and five medieval pieces from the trobador repertoire. The wide range of instruments on the album includes guitarra morisca (Moorish guitar), guitarra latina (Latin guitar), gitterns, citole, lyre, harp, sinfonye (hurdy-gurdy), oud, medieval and Arabic fiddles, acoustic and midi bagpipes, recorders, six-hole whistles, various medieval and North African frame drums and other percussion.
